The Giant Sand Dunes, or Te Paki Sand Dunes, are one of those epic spots you can’t help but feel excited about. Stretching alongside Ninety Mile Beach, these towering dunes are the ultimate playground for adrenaline junkies. Some dunes reach a jaw-dropping 150 meters, so you can imagine the fun of hurtling down them on a sandboard.

I personally opted for a relaxed walk up the dunes to take in the stunning views, but most people come here to sand surf (totally worth trying if you're into that!). If you don’t bring your own board, you can easily hire one at the car park for $15.00 a day. Here's my tip, if you're with someone, just hire one board between you. Let’s be honest, after a few runs, you’ll probably be too tired to make the hike up for more, so save yourself a bit of cash! But hey, if you’re all about that sandboarding life, then go for it!

The energy at these dunes is incredible, whether you're riding the sands or just soaking up the beauty, it’s a great spot to enjoy the natural landscape while having some fun.
