Before diving into the wonders of Alpine National Park, I stopped by the charming town of Harrietville. This little gem has a cozy, welcoming vibe with its quaint shops and friendly locals. I spent some time at the Dredge Hole, which is not just a historical site but also a beautifully tranquil spot. Once a gold mining area from 1942 to 1954, it’s now a serene pond that offers a picturesque setting perfect for a relaxed stroll or a peaceful moment by the water. I even took a quick plunge into the chilly pond, it was freezing, but it was also my shower of the day, so it felt like a double win! Walking around the lake, I enjoyed spotting local wildlife and soaking in the calm atmosphere. Being a Queenslander used to dense rainforests, I was particularly captivated by the unique, cold-climate forest and found the trees absolutely stunning. It's a nice stop before you head deeper into Alpine National Park.
