This track is one of New Zealand’s Great Walks and super popular for good reason. It’s about 60 km of gorgeous coastline with golden beaches, clear blue water, and lush bush all the way. Perfect for a summer hike with heaps of chances to swim and chill on the beach. There are huts and campsites along the way if you wanna stretch it out over a few days. Huts usually cost around $40–50 a night, and you’ll need to book them early through the Department of Conservation website.
You don’t have to do the whole thing, it’s also great to do just a day walk too. Some solid day hikes I’d suggest are:
Torrent Bay to Bark Bay – about 7 km, takes 2 to 3 hours
Bark Bay to Onetahuti – around 6.5 km, 1.5 to 2 hours
Onetahuti to Awaroa – close to 7 km, 1.5 to 2 hours
Anchorage Bay to Bark Bay – roughly 12 km, around 4 hours (my personal fav)
If you want the lowdown on the boats and water taxis that run between the beaches, you can find all that info on my Abel Tasman National Park destination page.
