Wilson Creek Chasm is one of those hidden gems that feels like stepping into a secret canyon adventure. Nestled in the rugged West Coast wilderness, this narrow gorge is carved deep by rushing waters, creating a dramatic playground of towering rock walls, crystal-clear pools, and fun rock-hopping opportunities.
This place is seriously insane. Since it’s not on most maps, here are the exact coordinates to plug into your GPS: 44°05'09.2"S 169°22'08.4"E
It’s just a 1-minute drive from Fantail Falls heading south along the Haast Pass Highway. You’ll spot two carparks on the left, big enough for 10–15 cars.
Once you park, be super careful crossing the highway. Head to the bridge with the creek flowing underneath it. The second photo in this collection shows it. Depending on the water level, you can rock-hop on either side and follow the creek about 30 meters upstream and bam! You’ve found the chasm. The water’s cold, so expect to get your feet wet, but that just adds to the wild, untouched vibe of this epic spot.
