Waterfall

This is an easy little stop just off the Haast Highway, about 30 km south of Haast. The walk’s super cruisy, flat and well-formed so it’s a good one for stretching the legs. It's about 1km each way. You’ll wander through lush forest full of ferns and beech trees before popping out at the river, where you’ll get a distant view of Roaring Billy Falls.

The waterfall itself is pretty powerful and set against a classic West Coast backdrop. You can’t get right up close, but the blue water is stunning and there are heaps of rock stacks scattered along the riverbed, which add to the charm. Just watch your footing if you’re hopping around on the rocks, they’re massive and can be a bit slippery.
