Jacob’s Ladder in Tasmania is like taking a rollercoaster ride in your car, complete with hairpin turns and steep inclines. This road is essentially a zig-zagging path up Ben Lomond Mountain, offering some seriously jaw-dropping views along the way. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart or the squeamish, safety is crucial as the road is steep and rugged. I found myself far too nervous to drive up in my van, given its weight and the challenging conditions. Instead, I took a chance and asked for a lift from one of the 4WD vehicles making the ascent. Admittedly, I was a bit apprehensive about this, but walking up is not an option, so it was either hitching a ride or missing out on the lookout.
The driver I ended up asking was incredibly kind, and if you’re comfortable with it, don’t hesitate to ask fellow travelers for a lift. Just be prepared for a bumpy ride, as the road leading to Jacob's Ladder is quite narrow and uneven, so take extra care, especially around tight corners.
Once you make it to the top of Jacob’s Ladder, the reward is well worth the effort. The panoramic views are absolutely spectacular, it's the perfect place to catch your breath and take in the expansive plateau and the surrounding mountain peaks. The scenery is so stunning that it makes every bit of the nerve-wracking drive worth it. If you’re up for an adventure and can handle a bit of discomfort, Jacob’s Ladder offers some of the most breathtaking vistas you’ll find in Tasmania.
