I absolutely love Royal National Park and hope you get the chance to explore it too. One of the highlights here is the Coast Trail, an impressive 26km one-way track that’s as stunning as it is extensive. But don’t worry—you don’t need to tackle the whole trail to see Wedding Cake Rock. From the Beachcomber Avenue carpark, it’s just a 2.8km walk to reach this iconic spot. The trail is easy to navigate, with well-maintained boardwalks leading the way.

Wedding Cake Rock, also known as White Rock, is a striking sandstone formation that looks just like a giant slice of wedding cake. Suspended 25 meters above sea level, it’s a popular spot for Instagram-worthy shots. However, you’ll need to admire it from a distance due to a fence that was installed after the rock became a victim of vandalism in 2015. The rock’s instability makes it dangerous, as it could collapse into the sea within the next decade. So, no more risky selfies on this sweet-looking rock! Instead, take it in from afar and admire the smooth, white sandstone that surrounds the area, it’s perfect for photos.

After visiting Wedding Cake Rock, you can head back along the same trail. If you’re feeling energetic, I recommend extending your hike to Marley Head, which is just another kilometer further along. Marley Head offers stunning coastal cliff views and is a great spot to relax. On my visit, I continued my adventure by adding the Jibbon Trail to my route. This trail led me to Shelly Beach and Jibbon Head, both of which were beautiful additions to the day. While the extra trail isn’t necessary, it’s a fantastic option if you’re up for a longer walk. In total, my route came to about 13km, turning the hike into a full day of exploration. You can easily tailor your walk to suit your preferences and energy levels.
