If you're exploring Tasmania, spotting Tasmanian devils is likely high on your list, I know it was definitely at the top of mine. While these iconic creatures can be found throughout the state, getting up close and personal with them, especially during the day, can be a bit challenging. That’s why I decided to visit a conservation sanctuary and take a tour to learn more about these fascinating animals.

Devils@Cradle Wildlife Park is a top-notch sanctuary located right at the entrance of Cradle Mountain National Park. It’s home to Tasmanian devils, as well as Spotted-tail and Eastern quolls. This place offers a fantastic opportunity to see these unique animals up close. Tasmanian devils are particularly special because they’re the world’s largest surviving carnivorous marsupials. Their impressive scavenging skills and distinctive screeches make them both intriguing and essential to the ecosystem. However, Tasmanian devils are currently facing significant threats. The species has been severely impacted by a contagious cancer known as Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), which has drastically reduced their numbers in the wild. Conservation efforts are crucial to their survival, and visiting sanctuaries like Devils@Cradle helps support these efforts.

The park offers day-feeding tours and after-dark experiences, so you can choose how you’d like to see these amazing creatures in action. The general entry fee is $25.00, the feeding tours are priced at $37.50 and the after-dark experience is $75.00. By visiting, you’re not only getting a chance to see some incredible Aussie wildlife but also contributing to important conservation work aimed at protecting these endangered species. So, if you’re eager to glimpse some fascinating critters and want to support their preservation, Devils@Cradle is definitely the place to be!
