If you want a true local spot near Ikseon-dong, Chanyang-jip (찬양집) should be on your list. Nicknamed the “house of praise,” this tiny eatery is known for its seafood kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) — hearty, affordable, and Michelin Bib Gourmand–approved. For just ₩6,500–7,000, you get a steaming, generously filled bowl that easily hits the spot.

The shop is just a short walk from Jongno 3-ga Station (Exit 6), only 1–2 minutes away from the hanok alleys of Ikseon-dong. Don’t be surprised if you walk past it the first time — it’s very unassuming, with locals lining up outside for their fix.
The menu is refreshingly simple:
🍲 Haemul Kalguksu (Seafood Noodles) – ₩6,500, filled with fresh clams, shrimp, mussels, zucchini, and topped with seaweed. The broth is light but flavorful, made daily with kelp, anchovy, and leeks.
🥟 Mandu (Dumplings) – ₩7,000, available in kimchi or pork. They’re soft, plump, and a great side to share.
💡 How to Eat It Best: The kalguksu soup leans light and clean, so pair it with their free
kimchi — you can choose between the fresh, crunchy version or the more aged, tangy kind. Together, it’s the perfect balance.
What I love about Chanyang-jip is how it feels straight out of old Seoul: cramped seating, red plastic stools, and bowls of noodles flying out of the kitchen to locals who’ve been coming here for years. It’s not fancy, but it’s the kind of meal that sticks with you.
