Park

Seoul has plenty of parks, but World Cup Park is on another level — literally built on what used to be the Nanjido landfill, it’s now one of the city’s best examples of turning something ugly into something beautiful. It’s not just one park, but five distinct areas: Haneul, Noeul, Nanjicheon, Nanji Hangang, and Pyeonghwa (Peace Park). Together, they cover a massive space and each one has its own vibe.

Haneul Park (하늘공원) – “Sky Park

This is the star of World Cup Park, and the one you’ve probably seen all over Instagram. To get there, you either climb 291 wooden stairs or take the little park tram (worth it if you’re saving energy). At the top, you’ll find endless fields of silver grass that glow in the light, with winding trails cutting through them.

  • Best season: Fall, during the Silver Grass Festival (usually October).

  • Best time of day: Late afternoon leading into sunset. The city skyline plus golden fields = magic.

  • Photo tip: Don’t just stop at the first viewpoint — wander deeper into the trails for quieter spots.

Noeul Park (노을공원) – “Sunset Park”

True to its name, this is the spot to catch sunsets. It’s calmer than Haneul Park, with wide lawns that make it feel like a giant picnic ground. You’ll find art sculptures scattered throughout the park, giving it a quirky edge.

  • Vibe: Open, spacious, more locals than tourists.

  • Best for: Sunset picnics, quiet evening walks, or stargazing if you stay late.

  • Fun fact: The park is also a habitat for birds and wildflowers — it’s more of a natural escape than a curated garden.

Pyeonghwa Park (평화공원) – “Peace Park”

This is usually the starting point for most visitors since it’s closest to World Cup Stadium Station. It’s family-friendly, with ponds, fountains, playgrounds, and wide paths for biking or skating.

  • Best for: Families, kids, or anyone who wants a chill, easy stroll.

  • Vibe: Lively, especially on weekends with families and couples hanging out.

  • Highlight: The World Cup Memorial Stadium is right next door, so if you’re into sports, you can pair a park visit with a stadium tour or game.

Nanjicheon Park (난지천공원)

This one is more low-key, set along a stream with walking and biking paths. It feels less “destination” and more “local neighborhood park,” but that’s what makes it great if you want a quieter walk away from the crowds.

  • Best for: A peaceful stroll or jog.

  • Vibe: Calm, slower pace, nature-focused.

  • Highlight: Bridges and shaded spots along the stream make it a nice summer escape.

Nanji Hangang Park (난지한강공원)

This part flows right into the Han River park system, so it has the same vibe as other riverside parks: biking paths, open grassy fields, and plenty of space to lay down a picnic mat.

  • Best for: Riversides vibes without the chaos of Yeouido Hangang Park.

  • Vibe: Relaxed, wide open, breezy.

  • Highlight: You can rent bikes here and ride along the Han — it’s one of the best ways to explore.

Tips

  • Getting there: Take Line 6 to World Cup Stadium Station (Exit 1). From there, Peace Park is right in front, and you can walk or take the shuttle/tram to the other sections.

  • Time needed: If you’re hitting just Haneul Park, 1–2 hours is fine. But if you want to explore multiple parks, plan for half a day.

  • What to bring: Comfortable shoes, water, snacks, and maybe a picnic blanket.

  • When to go: Fall is unbeatable (silver grass season), but spring is also gorgeous with cherry blossoms and fresh green views. Summer can get hot, but evenings are nice with sunsets.
