Hongdae is one of Seoul’s most vibrant districts It’s popular with university students, K-pop fans, and travelers looking for Seoul’s younger side.
⚠️ My Honest Opinion on Hongdae
Hongdae is worth visiting if it’s your first time in Seoul. The area really comes alive at night — it’s one of the best spots in the city for clubbing, bar hopping, live busking (street performances), and hanging out with friends. Most of the clubs and bars here are geared toward university students or people in their 20s, so if that’s your vibe, you’ll have a great time.
If you’re older or just want something a little more polished, I’d recommend checking out Itaewon instead, or hitting up cocktail bars in Apgujeong or Cheongdam.
I wouldn’t come here for shopping. Most of the fashion you’ll see in Hongdae is mass-produced or drop-shipped from China, and you’ll find better quality (and more unique pieces) in Seongsu or Hannam-dong.
👉 If your visiting during the day, then I recommended going to Yeonnam-dong. It’s just northwest of Hongdae and full of cozy cafés, great restaurants, and weekend pop-up booths.
