Get yourself ready for one of the best golfing experiences of your life.
Royal County Down hovers between number 1 and number 3 in the world but it's certainly the best golf course I've been lucky enough to play. Sometimes in life, high expectations can lead to a letdown but for me, Royal County Down delivers.
The clouds rest on the Mourne Mountains that form the backdrop and you've got the Irish sea to one side, I've never seen a golf course more beautiful. The front 9 is probably the best 9 holes in the world, the back 9 is still great but the front 9 is the clear stand out.
The only criticism that RCD receives is that there are too many blind shots. There are a number of blind shots, therefore a caddie is highly recommended. The course was built and shaped by some of the biggest names is golf's history - Old Tom Morris, Harry Colt, Harry Vardon, George Combe all contributed to the course and the thing with the blind shots that you have to understand is that when Harry Colt was building a hole, he didn't have the big machinery that now exists so when they ran out of space in one field for a hole, he would simply say, "right lads we'll tee off from this field and hit over that big hill there into the next field".
So yes, there are blind shots but in order to take full advantage of the land that was presented to them, it's what they had to do.
