Founded by Rick and Katie Toogood, Prawn on the Lawn is a tiny 24-cover seafood bar on Duke Street in Padstow that has become one of the most celebrated fish restaurants in the country. The menu changes daily — sometimes hourly — dictated entirely by what the day boats land that morning, with fifth-generation Padstow fisherman Johnny supplying crab and lobster and local fishmonger George delivering straight from Newlyn. White metro tiles, marble fish slabs, blackboard menus and a genuinely informal atmosphere. Tapas-style small plates — think large prawns with XO butter, scallops with Thai marinade, gurnard ceviche. Sister seafood bar Little Prawn is directly across the street; Barnaby’s restaurant is at Trevibban Mill nearby. Listed in the Michelin Guide every year since opening. Open Tuesday to Saturday. Dog-friendly (small dogs only, let them know when booking). Book well ahead.
