Carved into the granite cliffs above Porthcurno Bay by one remarkable woman — Rowena Cade — almost entirely by hand from 1929, the Minack is one of the most extraordinary places in Cornwall. Rows of stone seats look down over a stage with the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, and on a clear day the views stretch all the way to the Lizard. Performances run Easter to October, from Shakespeare to opera — watching a play here on a summer evening is genuinely unforgettable. You can also visit the theatre and subtropical gardens year-round without seeing a show. Book in advance for both visits and performances.
