If you're ever hot from the beaches and want something fresh, I always tell people about Fonts de l’Algar. It’s about 15 km from Benidorm, tucked up in Callosa d’en Sarrià and feels like stepping into a different kind of nature, lush, alive and water everywhere. You walk a gentle 1.5 km circuit along the Algar riverbed. Waterfalls, springs bubbling from limestone, shady trees overhead and those natural pools (“tolls”) that beg you to dip in. The water’s cold even in summer, which is perfect when the heat is intense.
There are nice touches: picnic areas, signs telling you about the local plants, old water channels and old irrigation systems still in use, even restaurants nearby so you can make a full day of it. If you go early or late in the day, it’s peaceful. Midday in summer can be very busy.
