Located in the Serrania de La Macarena mountain range in the province of Meta, El Caño Cristales is probably one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. The river is called the liquid rainbow river because of the bright color red and other colors like yellow, green, blue and black that you will find here. The red color comes from the water plant Macarenia Clavigera, which blooms for a few months a year. These river plants are unique in the world and only occur in this National Park, between July and November.
