Popayan is called the white city of Colombia, because of the white center and its colonial buildings. It is said to be one of the best preserved colonial cities in America. However, opinions and feelings about Popayan are mixed. But even if you use Popayan only as a starting point for the Puracé national park and the local market Silvia, it is a nice city where you can spend some nice time strolling through the colonial center.
