Sourton Tors is a go to sunrise and sunset spot for me on Dartmoor.

Sourton is situated at the north-western edge of Dartmoor National Park and can be found along the A386 road.

The easiest way to get to the tors is from the car parking area by Sourton’s Church of St Thomas a Becket across the road from the pub. From there, you follow a path that runs along a bridge that spans the Granite Way to a gate that leads you out onto the moor.

Sourton Tors rise in front of you. Wide tracks run through bracken and long grass to the outcrops. It’s a fairly steep climb, but a short walk in the scheme of things, and the views at the top are reward in themselves. From one side you can see all the way to Cornwall, and the other there is endless moorland including Meldon Reservoir. There's a trig point at the top but you'll need to yomp up the steps of moorland.

Sourton is also home to the famous Highwayman Inn, which is said to be the most haunted inn in Britain. So if you're up for a spooky adventure or simply want to enjoy the beauty of Dartmoor, Sourton Tors is definitely worth a visit!
