The hike today will take you along the rugged paths of the Granite Coast, through the Geevor Tin Mining area for an optional visit and onwards to a beautiful sweep of golden sand at Sennen Cove.
Taking in part of Cornwall’s oldest mining district and leading around Cape Cornwall where the Atlantic currents split, the path is a mixture of easy open walking along the high cliff tops and short, some steep ascents and descents finishing with a walk in the dunes or along the beach to Sennan Cove where the trail conveniently meets a kiosk selling vegan ice cream and snacks!
🌱 LUNCH TIP
If you decide to stop to visit the Geevor tin mines, the Counthouse Cafe usually has a few vegan options. If you are a bigger group, you can email/call them and pre-order a picnic lunch to take away, just let them know you're vegan.
If you don't stop to visit the mines, you should arrive at Sennan Cove for a late lunch, there’s a takeaway just off the beach by Sennan Surf lodge/school that has vegan pasties & vegan ice cream, or Sennan Cove cafe has a few good vegan options from £7+ & great coffee.
There is also a small convenience store next to the Sennan Cove Cafe if you need to stock up on anything.
TRAIL TIP
Today's hike is beautiful!
One thing I would recommend, as you hike through the Geevor tin mining area, the map shows a few different path options, if you're not good with heights I would stick to the slightly more inland/upper path as the other drop right down to the cliffs below and there's some decent scrambling over some rocks down there.
The hike from Pendeen Lighthouse to Sennan Cove has a few steep sections, but overall it’s a really enjoyable hike and you can often see Choughs on the rocky outcrops and seals swimming in the sea below in this area so keep a lookout!
As you approach Sennan Cove on the coast path, I recommend dropping down onto the beach to walk into the town as it’s a lovely walk.
MAKE SURE TO
Plan for beach and downtime this afternoon!
You could rent surfboards, visit the Round House art gallery, the RNLI lifeboat station, pick up anything you might need from the small store and rest up for another day hiking tomorrow.
