Century Sam Lake is a challenging hike in Strathcona Provincial Park, known for its steep sections and stunning views.

The trail takes hikers through a mix of forest, rocky terrain, and river crossings before reaching the beautiful turquoise lake, glacier and ice caves at the top.

Although challenging, this is one of the easier alpine lake hikes on the island and is quite popular for that reason.

It is recommended to only drive to the trailhead if you are in a four-wheel drive vehicle with high clearance. If this is not the case, you can park earlier along the road at the first waypoint. If you hike from the first waypoint this trip will be closer to 15km round trip, so plan for the extra time and distance.

Due to snow and ice, this is a seasonal hike and is best done between July and September.

Access to the trailhead can be tricky due to seasonal road closures and rough logging roads, so it's best to check conditions beforehand. The trail is only open on weekends. Pay attention to the time and allot ample time for getting back to the gate before dusk, since it is very common for landowners to shut the access gate at dusk to manage safety in and out of the area, especially during logging season. As with any long hike, make sure to properly research the trail so that you are properly prepared with the right gear and are aware of current trail conditions.
