Korouoma, a stunning canyon that transforms into a true winter wonderland. The main attraction here is the series of magnificent waterfalls that freeze into towering walls of ice, creating a spectacle you won't forget. The most popular route to see them is the Koronjää Trail, a 5-kilometer loop that takes you down into the canyon and past the three largest ice falls. It's a moderately challenging hike with some elevation changes, taking about 2 to 3 hours, but the views are absolutely worth the effort, offering a magical experience of Lapland's raw beauty.

During summer there are no waterfalls to be seen but the canyon rock formations. The reason for this is that it aren't actual waterfalls, but a natural drip of groundwater that freezes into a waterfall shape over winter. However, the trail and old grown forest are a beautiful sight. The trail takes you right next to the river in the canyon offering some unique scenery you don't get in winter. Be aware of mosquitos this time of the year!

During winter, the trail can get quite challenging. It is a MUST to put spikes on your shoes. Those can be rented for a very cheap price at the coffee hut, found near the parking lot. (If you arrive early morning, this might not be open yet so bring your own.) Without spikes it's only recommended to go straight down to the waterfalls and don't do the whole loop. You will get in trouble and struggle. Its a beautiful and safe hike when done properly but lets just say the helicopter needs to fly in often, and you don't want it to be for you.

The drive is recommended with good winter driving skills. The forest road gets narrow and might not be plowed. Multiple cars are stuck on the road every day, its a very busy area and when a bus comes your way it's impossible to pass each other.

It gets very busy with tour operators this time of year. Booking a guided tour is recommended, they will offer you clothing (it can be 10 degrees colder in the canyon) and an experienced driver.
