Cataratas Eco Chontales is a beautiful jungle waterfall spot about 1.5 hours from San José in the mountains of Costa Rica. The reserve has several waterfalls connected by forest trails, hanging bridges, and natural swimming spots. The hike is moderately challenging but very rewarding, with lush rainforest, river crossings, and multiple cascades along the way. It’s a great adventure for anyone who enjoys nature hikes and hidden waterfalls.

Local tip: Start the hike early in the morning and bring good hiking shoes. The trail can get very muddy and slippery, especially after rain. The last waterfall is usually the quietest and perfect for a swim.
