Playa Conchal is one of the most unique and beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, famous for its shoreline made of tiny crushed seashells instead of regular sand and its crystal-clear turquoise water. Located about 4.5–5 hours (around 260 km / 160 miles) from San José, it’s a popular beach in the Guanacaste region and well worth the drive. The water here is typically calm and incredibly clear, making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and kayaking. There is no direct public parking lot on the beach itself; most visitors park near Playa Brasilito and walk 10–15 minutes along the shore to reach Playa Conchal. You’ll find paid parking lots in Brasilito run by locals, and it’s best to arrive early on weekends to secure a spot. Shade is limited during midday, and vendors are usually present offering rentals and snacks, but bringing your own water and sunscreen is recommended. The beach has a more lively feel than some nearby spots, yet it still feels spacious and scenic. If you’re looking for vibrant blue water, soft shell-covered shores, and one of the most photogenic beaches in Guanacaste, Playa Conchal is a must-visit.

TIP: DONT TAKE THE SHELLS FROM THE BEACH TO PREVENT COSTAL ECOSYSTEMS TO BE DISRUPTED BECUASE THEY ARE CRUCIAL TO MARINE LIFE.
