Arenal Volcano Ecological Park is a nature reserve located near La Fortuna, about 3 hours from San José. The park sits at the base of the iconic Arenal Volcano and offers several well-maintained hiking trails that pass through rainforest, old lava fields, and scenic viewpoints of the volcano. 🌋🌿
There are multiple trails of different lengths, ranging from short walks of around 1 km to longer loops of about 3–4 km, making it suitable for a relaxed nature visit or a longer hike. Along the trails, you’ll find volcano viewpoints, forest sections with wildlife, and areas where you can see the old lava flows from past eruptions.
The park has good visitor facilities, including parking, restrooms, and a small reception area, making it an easy and comfortable stop for travelers exploring the Arenal region.
There are also multiple options for water activities, such as kayaking trips, siplines by the water and some other water games.
TIP> Bring mosquito repellent, hiking shoes, rain coats (because of unpredictable weather), and some snacks.
