Braulio Carrillo National Park is a vast rainforest park located about 45–60 minutes from San José along the highway to the Caribbean. Known for its dense jungle, rivers, and mountains, it protects one of the largest areas of primary rainforest in Costa Rica. The park has several short but scenic trails, especially in the Quebrada González sector, where you can walk through lush forest, cross small bridges, and spot wildlife like monkeys, toucans, frogs, and butterflies. It’s a great stop for travelers who want to experience raw rainforest nature close to the city.

Local tip: Go early in the morning and bring a rain jacket. This park is one of the wettest places in the country, but the mist often makes the jungle look even more magical.
