Ninety Mile Beach despite its misleading name, is actually around 55 miles long (88km) and located on the western coast of the North Island.
This long stretch of beach walking is the only place that I got a single blister on TA and makes up much of the first 100km of the trail. It is said to have been given its name as early European settlers ‘knew their horses could travel up to 30 miles in a day’.
