Te Hāwere-a-Maki (Goat Island) is a spectacular destination full of incredible marine life and world-class activities. It is the oldest Marine Reserve in New Zealand, established in the 1970s to reverse the effects of overfishing. Wandering around the island will introduce visitors to friendly snapper, kelp forests, rocky shores and underwater cliffs. Those with a hankering for adventure can explore these waters through kayaking, glass-bottomed boat rides and diving courses, from beginner-level to certified instruction. There is something for everyone in this beautiful aquatic paradise, located just over an hour north of Auckland City!
