Though this resort isn't in the heart of Paihia I highly recommend staying at The Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay and driving into town for your tours! Nice accomodations can be few and far between in Northland and this one really surprised me. The rooms are modern and well maintained and the pool is one of the coolest I have seen in NZ - it's done to look like natural rock pools.
