The Duomo di Napoli, or more formally known as the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, is an awe-inspiring and beautiful example of Gothic architecture in southern Italy. Built by King Charles I of Anjou in the 13th century, this cathedral holds a number of artwork and historical treasures, including a vial of the blood of Saint Januarius which leads to the legend that disaster will befall Naples if the blood does not liquify. Additionally, various works of art can be found throughout the cathedral, such as Assumptions by Pietro Perugino and frescoes by Luca Giordano. This cathedral truly stands as an incredible testament to history and culture in Naples that should not be missed!
