Cristo Rei ("Christ the King") is a religious sanctuary on the other side of the Tagus river, located in the parish of Pragal, municipality of Almada, district of Setúbal, Portugal. To get there, the best way is to cross the 25 de Abril Bridge. This is arguably the best viewpoint of Lisbon!

From there, it is possible to see monuments such as the Belém Tower, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos ("Monument of the Discoveries"), the Jerónimos Monastery, MAAT (Lisbon's Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology), in addition to the the city's port, Praça do Comércio ("Commere Square"), Lisbon's Cathedral as well as Saint George's Castle, from afar.

One could say Portugal's Cristo Rei is a younger brother of Brazil's Cristo Redentor ("Christ, the Redeemer"), the greatest symbol of Rio de Janeiro, and the seventh wonder of the modern world. One statue was explicitly inspired by the other, reinforcing the ties of friendship and cultural link between the two countries.

It is possible to visit the sanctuary free of charge (parking is also free). For accessing the statue using an elevator, the ticket costs 8€ per person.
