Miradouro de São Cristóvão (Boaventura, North Coast)
Dramatic viewpoint above the wild north coast cliffs
São Cristóvão is one of those viewpoints that makes you stop the car and just stare. Perched high above the Atlantic near Boaventura, it overlooks rugged cliffs, terraced hillsides, and pounding surf far below. There’s a café nearby, so you can sip coffee while taking in the view.
I usually include this stop on north coast drives – it’s a perfect mid-morning break with big views and zero crowds.
Insider tip
Best light mid-morning; afternoons can get misty.
Grab a coffee or poncha at the tiny bar next to the viewpoint.

For those who want more context
São Cristóvão is named after a small chapel dedicated to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travelers. The viewpoint sits along the old coastal road linking Faial and Boaventura – now one of the quietest and most scenic drives on the island.
This stop fits perfectly into my North Coast Tour – check it out here.
