Burg Katz (German for "Cat's Castle") is a 14th-century fortress perched atop a cliff along the Rhine River near St. Goarshausen, Germany. Built by Count William II of Katzenelnbogen in 1371, Burg Katz offers magnificent panoramic views of the German countryside. The castle has retained its sprawling castle walls, a tall bergfried and is also the site of the first Riesling vineyard planted in 1435. For the self-declared feline enthusiasts among us, Burg Katz’s moniker is just too inviting to resist — you can almost hear the meows! It is now privately owned, and unfortunately not open for visitors.
