The legendary Drachenfels is a hill located in the Siebengebirge uplands between Königswinter and Bad Honnef, Germany. Formed by rising magma which solidified underneath, the hill stands at a height of 321 metres (1,053 ft). As an attraction popular among tourists and romanticists, it is the source of countless legends. The most famous being that Siegfried, the hero of the Nibelungenlied, killed the dragon Fafnir who lived in a cave in the hill, then bathed in its blood to become invulnerable. Strewn with picturesque vineyards and white walled cities, Drachenfels is said to cast a magical ambience over the River Rhine and is not to be missed for any visitor!
