Marienbrücke, or Maria Bridge, is a curious attraction located in Schwangau, Germany. Built nearly half a century before nearby Neuschwanstein Castle, by King Maxmillian II of Bavaria in 1845, and renamed after his wife who was an avid hiker, this unique bridge is made out of steel and designed using steel cables and stretchable constructions to create a rigid structure above 200 feet (90 meters) up in the air. Viewed best from the castle, but closed due to construction until autumn 2022, it's rumored King Ludwig seeded its popularity for its view of the fairytale castle when he came to power. There's just no telling what these two powerful Bavarian rulers had in their minds when they commissioned the construction of Marienbrücke. What's certain is that modern us can enjoy it's awe-inspiring beauty and take in a view like none other.
