A famous local swimming beach but also home to an epic cave, small waterfall and popular sand dunes.

To find the cave, go to the south end of Bethells Beach (left when you’re facing the water). During low tide, you can actually go inside the cave.

The cave is only 30-40 meters deep and has a large opening so plenty of light can get in. From the inside, you have the perfect natural window to enjoy views of Bethells Beach and the surrounding landscape. - CHECK TIDES & BE WATER SMART!!

Tip: Cave Location: 36°54'06.9"S 174°26'50.9"E

Note: Like many of our west coast beaches, please be cautious swimming/rip tides!

Note: While this guide highlights amazing hidden gems across New Zealand, it's essential to also do your own research before visiting to make sure it suits your capabilities. Always check tide times, weather conditions, and ensure you are water-safe. Some locations may have challenging terrain or be subject to changing conditions. Be mindful of local regulations, respect nature, and and leave footprints only. Stay safe and enjoy responsibly!
