Tucked beneath Mount Te Aroha in one of New Zealand’s prettiest little spa towns, where you feel like you're stepping back in time to an 'old New Zealand'. This is such a cute town to pass through just for the town itself, however there is more! AMAZING walks around the back of town, the highest peak in the Kaimai's (it's a killer walk, but worth it) or if you don’t have time for the big hike Whakapipi Lookout is a great hike with rewarding views, lots of great waterfalls, other fun areas like Butlers incline, wetlands, mountain biking, waterholes.. and so much more! Including the amazing: Te Aroha Mineral Spas.
These private cedar hot tubs are filled with natural silky mineral water that’s been famous for its healing qualities for well over 100 years, all surrounded by huge trees and peaceful domain gardens. Alongside the mineral spas, their beautiful sister building, Domain House, has been elegantly restored—now offering massages, facials, and a range of beauty treatments, including couples spa and treatment packages, making it an easy spot to slow down and treat yourself for a few hours. The whole setting feels peaceful and tucked away, surrounded by huge trees and the beautiful Te Aroha Domain.
What we love most is how quiet and calming it feels compared to some of the bigger commercial hot pool spots around NZ. You get your own private spa room including toilet and shower, can adjust the temperature yourself, and just completely switch off for a while. It’s especially good after hiking Mount Te Aroha and the other amazing hikes close by.
The whole area has a pretty cool history too. Back in the late 1800s, Te Aroha was actually one of New Zealand’s most popular spa destinations, with people travelling from all over the country to “take the waters” because of the believed healing properties.
Local tip:
Book ahead, especially weekends. These spas are popular with couples and locals wanting a proper relaxing escape🌿🛁

'Amazing!! After a day of cycling this was exactly what we needed! We booked a private spa for 30 minutes. It was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They showed us to our spa room and showed us how everything operated, including some safety info. Highly recommend visiting, especially if you are cycling or hiking in the area!!!" - FT, Google
'Very lovely hot tubs. Regulate the temperature and bubbles yourself. Very relaxing. The treats are really tasty and bought some bottles of lemon and Te Aroha home. Very relaxing. Skin felt lovely afterwards. Room well presented and staff friendly and caring.' -S&R Pickett, Google
