Six unique glamping options + farm-stay + FREE animal feeding tours
Ever walked a llama along the coast, then had cake with a view?
Just outside Kaikōura, this unforgettable experience lets you trek beside your own llama, explore native bush and beaches, and soak up stunning mountain and sea views—all at a chilled-out pace.
Kaikōura Llama Trekking offers two options:
🦙 1-hour Taster Trek – A gentle wander along riverbanks and native bush, perfect for kids or first-timers.
🦙 3.5-hour Half-Day Trek – Includes beach tracks, Kaikōura Bay, seal spotting, a picnic stop with hot drinks and cake, and even entry to the historic Fyffe House.
🎒 Your llama carries your gear in saddle bags, and your guide shares fun facts about local history, wildlife, and—of course—llamas. Each one has their own personality, and you’ll quickly find your favourite.
What to know:
Runs year-round | Small group sizes | Bookings essential
No riding involved – this is a walk-alongside experience
Mostly flat terrain, easy for all ages
Minimum age to lead your own llama: 7 (younger kids can share with adults)
Seals are often spotted on the half-day route, especially near the rocks by the bay.
