We love love loveee hiking up & back down to the needle from this side.
Cross island Walk - The Needle - Te Rua Manga
The access road to the trek start is super smooth and the hike is steep but great! This is the quickest way to the needle (compared to the wigmores side which also have a very bumpy/gravel road). Depending on your fitness level it's on average 1hr one - way.
Before setting off, we made sure to pack all the essentials — plenty of water, snacks, sturdy footwear, sunblock, and insect repellent 🌞. It’s a challenging trek, so it's important to be prepared. Also, don't forget to bring your mobile phone for safety, just in case.
🌟 Tip: The hike is best tackled early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and to enjoy cooler temperatures along the way 🌿. We recommend taking it slow and enjoying the diverse wildlife and plants along the trail!
🔎 Handy Advice: This trail can get muddy, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear. And remember, the environment here is pristine, so leave no trace and help keep this beautiful island gem as stunning as ever 🌺.
We recommend Bruce from Maunga Tours if you want to cruise up with a legendary local tour guide!
