This unique accommodation is in Ōhoka just outside of Christchurch and is one of the coolest and unique stays we've ever had in New Zealand! We stayed here a few years back and was not only blown away by the UFO itself but the whole resort was 5 stars - you'll see why in the photos!
One of only 50 of its kind in the world, the Area 51 Futuro house is located in Ōhoka, 25 minutes North from Christchurch, and has been restored to its original 1970s glory and offers some of the coolest accommodations in New Zealand.
The whole resort was absolutely unreal, it really did feel like our own private resort. We met up with Nick the owner and creator of this amazing place, he took us for a blat in his Tesla (back when they were rare to see in NZ!) and got to learn all about his passion and hard work that has gone into the restoration and build of the Futuro house & resort.
The spaceship has room for seven guests, the property also has an amazing pool, large spa, fancy outdoor sauna, outdoor shower, amazing gardens, epic games room, 1980's Mc Donalds playground gear, and lots of other accommodation options on the property too. Its called a resort and really does feel like your own private resort.
Pretty amazing new news: Heritage New Zealand researchers have unearthed more of its history and recently awarded the Ōhoka Futuro Category 1 heritage status.
