Our local swimming hole! With a secret waterfall tucked around the corner (swimmable) and there is also another whole area only locals know about.

Poripori swimming gets super popular in the summer! It's a worthy spot to swim.

To find the locals spot (which now is very popular!) here is the entry: -37.78372235358117, 176.05081961298558

Park courteously here and then go right when you get to the water and it's only a few minutes up stream with lots of jumping rocks.

NOTE: Alot of Sundays, they let the dam go at McLaren Falls, so if you feel the current change and the waters rise, get out quickly. Check the times/dates here: https://www.manawaenergy.co.nz/wairoa (The dam is released for kayakers and rafters! Grade 5. and yes we've done it! its nuts)

Here is a good review with some good pointers:

"Such an incredible place and free to go! It's close to Tauranga. If you are going to the waterfall like I did just be really careful and the rocks are slippery and the water moves fast and is deep so make sure you have someone with you at all times just in case. The place is really beautiful though and worth seeing. When you first enter you do need to cross the river which has a little beach on the other side. Highly recommend!" - Cheryl, Google

Tip: One of our favourite memories of this area was (a very scary but awesome white water rafting trip) with River Bug NZ https://www.riverbug.nz/ (as seen in the video) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNozWgiiigF
