We had 2 attempts at finding the Taranaki boulders, the first being a fail because the google maps location is incorrect, so we asked around the locals and got told where so the next day at low tide we went back and found them :)

When you get to Rapanui beach (must be at low tide, ideally an hour before), turn right and walk through the gap between the island/cliifs and keep going for a good 10-20mins walk. You will come across a cool as cave (plus more caves as you continue walking & a beach waterfall after rain). You will see boulders sticking out of the cliff faces! And then the awesome boulders in the sand!! Really fun to rock hop along and get some cool insta pix :) Use our pix as a reference to know when you have arrived.

Be mindful of the tides!! There may also be locals here with the 4x4's doing donuts / fishing. Please also note that the sand shifts constantly so some days the boulders may be more visible than others.

Fun fact: These bad boy boulders are actually concretions, formed over thousands of years as minerals built up around a core like a grain of sand or shell. Ranging from pebble-sized to massive spheres, these boulders are a geological wonder worth checking out if you're ever in the area.
