🍃 Two waterfalls, one peaceful forest stroll
Matai Falls is a stunning 10-metre cascade tucked into lush native bush near Caberfeidh in the Catlins. A quick stroll from the roadside carpark on Rewcastle Road takes you through mossy forest, across a small bridge, and up to a wooden platform where the falls tumble down into a shaded rocky pool.
If you’re up for a few more steps, keep going another five minutes up the track to discover Horseshoe Falls, a smaller but equally pretty waterfall just a little further uphill.
📷 Two waterfalls: Matai Falls + Horseshoe Falls, both best after rain

🚶♀️ ~1.2 km return / 30–40 minutes total
🥾 Easy grade with a few stairs and damp patches
🐾 Dogs allowed on leash
🧼 Swimming not advised due to slippery rocks and hidden debris
