Around a 40mins walk. The massive tree roots attracted me here! (Ankor Wat, Cambodia style!) great interactive walk for kids too. (Be mindful of the entrance as it can be hard to miss).

More info: The National Wetland Centre, run by the National Wetland Trust of New Zealand, is creating a wetland sanctuary at Rotopiko/Lake Serpentine near Hamilton. This wildlife haven will feature research facilities, educational programs, wetland gardens, and heritage trails. Visitors can enjoy easy loop walks, picnics, and a self-guided Discovery Trail designed to engage kids in nature while having fun. With support from various organisations and volunteers, this project aims to promote wetland conservation and inspire positive action for these precious habitats.

Fun Fact:

The three Rotopiko/ Serpentine lakes are remnants of a 10,000-14,000 year old peat lake, formed at the end of the ice-age. The lakes have some of the best water quality and natural aquatic plant assemblages in the Waikato region.
