Lower Carpenter Valley, located eight miles from downtown Truckee and protected by the Truckee Donner Land Trust and its partners, is a picturesque 1,320-acre valley with a variety of habitats. It contains wet meadows, red fir, lodgepole pine, mixed-conifer forest, and freshwater emergent wetlands all of which support unique wildlife ranging from black bear to willow flycatcher - a special-status species. This pristine unspoiled area has a 2.75 mile one-way easy and flat nature trail, perfect for those looking to get out into nature while enjoying wildflowers, migrating birds, and beaver. Note: Dogs are not allowed.
