Le Miccine Vineyards & Winery is a small, family-run organic estate located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico DOCG region. Set amid rolling vineyards and olive groves, it combines boutique wine production with agritourism, offering tastings, tours, and lodging for visitors seeking an authentic Tuscan wine experience.
Heritage and Ownership
Founded as a traditional Chianti estate, Le Miccine was purchased in 1996 by Americans Clifford and Donna Meneghetti Weaver and later acquired in 2010 by Canadian vintner Paula Papini Cook. Under her leadership, the estate was converted to certified organic viticulture (2016), emphasizing sustainable farming and hand-crafted winemaking.
Vineyards and Production
The property spans roughly 13 hectares, with 7 hectares under vine at 380–410 meters elevation. Plantings are dominated by Sangiovese (about 80%) with smaller portions of Colorino and Vermentino. All grapes are harvested by hand, fermented in small lots, and aged in oak barrels to highlight the purity of Chianti fruit.
Wines
Le Miccine produces several wines under the Chianti Classico DOCG label, including:
Chianti Classico: bright, fruit-driven Sangiovese.
Riserva: longer oak aging, elegant structure.
Gran Selezione: single-vineyard Sangiovese showcasing depth and longevity.
Special cuvées such as Carduus (Merlot) and small-lot whites and rosés complete the range.
Visitor Experience
Tours and tastings are offered in English, French, Italian, and Spanish. Guests can walk the hilly vineyards, learn about organic practices, and sample up to five estate wines alongside olive oil. Accommodations with a pool and panoramic views make it a favored stop for travelers exploring Siena and Florence.
Recognition
Le Miccine is praised by visitors for its intimate atmosphere, knowledgeable hosts, and expressive wines that capture the essence of Chianti Classico terroir.
