The most famous baroque poet, Hallgrímur Pétursson, author of the Hymns of the Passion, was a priest here for a period. He married a woman who had been bought back by Danish authorities from the moors who had kidnapped her and sold her as a slave. The church itself is more recent, but it is extremely beautiful, contrasting starkly with the barren landscape surrounding it.
