Vífilsfell is a hyaloclastite ridge located in southwestern Iceland. It is 655 meters high and it's situated on top of the fissure system of Brennisteinsfjöll. It is part of a 10 km long mountain massif called Bláfjöll that forms an escarpment stretching to the north. Volcanic edifices found in the region includes subglacial mound Vífilsfell, flat-topped tuya called Northern Bláfjöll, and a series of conical mounds named Arnarþúfur. There are quarries at the western flank of Vífilsfell and nearby airports and ski resorts. The mountain was named after one of the freed slaves of Iceland's first settler Ingólfur Arnarson, which is said to have had his own farm at Vífilsstaðir and use to go up to the top of Vífilsfell each day to look for good weather when going fishing. It's a fun and fascinating area with plenty to explore.
