Europe’s steepest funicular and one of the most unique rides in Switzerland. The open-air carriage climbs the mountainside at an incredible gradient of up to 106%, making the short journey an adventure in itself.

At the top, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular alpine scenery and access to Gelmersee, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain lakes.

💡 Sandra’s Tip

Don’t stop at the train ride. Gelmersee and the Handeckfall Suspension Bridge are both worth visiting and are featured elsewhere in this guide.

⚠️ Good to Know

Due to construction work in 2026, plan for an additional 20-minute walk to reach the funicular.
