This is one of those experiences that made us feel immediately more connected to this gorgeous stretch of English coast. It is the perfect blend of exploration, unreal location, learning and delicious food, as a team member from the brilliant Fore Adventures introduces you to the world of sea foraging.
Fore offer a whole host of different coastal activities depending on the time you have and your preferences - Their team is comprised of passionate and very experienced locals and so any trip out with them is sure to be a winner. We opted for the Kayak Fishing, Foraging and Feasting which gave us a taste (literally) of a bit of everything.
Starting at the Fore hut at the Middle Beach Carpark in Studland you will meet your guide before heading down to the beach to jump in your kayak. You really don't have to have kayaked before, as it's very easy to pick up the technique and the paddle out to Old Harry Rocks is quite short and predominantly through shallow water.
As soon as we had our paddles in the water Dan, our guide, started to teach us how to fish and forage from our kayaks as well us talking us through wild foods and local history. All this was done in such a passionate and easy manner that it made it a great mix of fun and engaging. Take that from someone who found large parts of school very boring!
Getting out to the iconic sea stacks of Old Harry we were struck by just how unique this way of experiencing is - having seen countless images of them taken from the cliff top this was totally different and honestly pretty special.
After a couple of hours we returned to dry land with our bounty and headed up to a field overlooking the gorgeous bay to cook up a seafood feast. Here you will meet your chef and learn how to prepare wild ingredients before enjoying a two course meal with one of the best views in the area.
Note: If you don't catch much on your kayaking mission, fore will provide ingredients so don't worry!
