Directions

Located in the Ferrières district, the Musée Ziem is one of Martigues’ most rewarding cultural stops, especially if you’re interested in art connected to Provence. The museum showcases works by artists who were inspired by the town and its surroundings, including Félix Ziem, whose paintings helped popularize Martigues as the “Venice of Provence.”

The collection also features notable names such as Dérain, Dufy, Signac, and Picabia, offering a broader look at how the region influenced modern art. One standout piece is Picabia’s Étang de Berre, capturing the lagoon’s raw, wind-swept character.

Upstairs, you’ll find additional displays focused on local archaeology and ethnology, adding context to the region beyond its artistic appeal.

👉 Local Tip: Pair your visit with a walk to the Miroir aux Oiseaux right after. Seeing the real scene just after viewing the paintings gives you a completely different perspective.
